March (crafting) Madness

Posted on: April 10, 2011

Okay, so I’m a little late in posting this…As you may recall, my sister-in-law had given my son the best Christmas gift EVER!  A box full of supplies to create a craft a month  for an entire year. 🙂

Anyhow, during Spring break, we worked on March’s craft: the magazine necklace.  I remember making this as a kid.  If you  were into crafts in the 70’s/80’s, you probably know this one.   Nowadays, this might even be considered a “green” craft as you are recycling old magazines.

Cut a piece of magazine in a triangle or square, spread glue on it and roll it up into a “bead” onto a toothpick.  Let it dry and thread it on a piece of string/yarn, and voilà: you have a beautiful necklace.

Here are the pictures.  Our fingers got quite sticky but we had lots of fun.

Here’s my son spreading glue on the cut-up magazine pieces and rolling them onto skewers.

Here are our finished beads.

Threading the beads on the piece of yarn.

And here is the finished product. What a cutie!
